Griffin Signs New Contract With Sun

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 14, 2014) – The Connecticut Sun announced today it has signed Kelsey Griffin to a two-year contract.

As per team policy, terms were not released.

“It is great to have Kelsey back with the Sun after an outstanding season last year and MVP honors in Australia once again,” Connecticut Sun Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said. “Her on-the-court work ethic is contagious and will help us achieve great things this season.”

Selected by the Minnesota Lynx with the third overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft before being traded to the Sun that same day, Griffin was the only Sun player to start all 34 games in 2013 and had a breakout season. She scored in double-figures in a career-high 12 games while also setting career-highs in 10 different statistical categories.

“We are really happy to have Kelsey back,” Connecticut Sun coach Anne Donovan said. “She brings energy, enthusiasm and durability to our team. She was ready to contribute every game for us, and she followed up her best season in the WNBA with another great winter in Australia.”

In March, Griffin earned WNBL Grand Final MVP honors for the second straight year while leading the Bendigo Spirit to its second consecutive title.
