Sun Comes Out for March for Babies

The sun may not have been in the sky but the Sun team was shining in Mystic on Sunday. The Connecticut Sun put their feet to a different “floor” on Sunday, April 27 as players, coaches and staff hit the road at March of Dimes March for Babies in Mystic. Formerly known as WalkAmerica, March for Babies is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that benefits all babies—those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive.

Head coach Mike Thibault and assistant coaches Bernadette Mattox and Scott Hawk led the way, along with Connecticut Sun players Jamie Carey, Jolene Anderson, Cori Chambers, Jess Foley, and Kamesha Hairston.

“We are very excited to be able to participate in the March of Dimes March for Babies.” said Chris Sienko, Sun general manager. “This is a great cause, and to get our staff, players and fans out to participate is an excellent way to kick off the 2008 season."

Families from around the state signed up for the Connecticut Sun March for Babies team. Walk team members walked with players and coaches on Sunday in Mystic, received an exclusive Connecticut Sun March for Babies t-shirt and a ticket to the March of Dimes Celebration game on May 30th at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year including over 4,100 babies in Connecticut. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. More than 120,000 babies are born with serious birth defects that can mean a lifetime of disability. Babies born healthy need champions too, to be sure they have access to newborn screening and preventive health care. The March of Dimes and the Connecticut Sun are there for all babies.
