Nykesha and the Sun roll to victory!

By Andrew M. Baseline Reporter

The Connecticut Sun faced the Charlotte Sting on Friday, July 22. Taj McWilliams-Franklin scored 11 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. Asjha Jones had 15 points scored. Charlotte stayed with the Sun up until halftime. With the score tied at 43 going into the 2nd half Charlotte had lost its sting! That’s when Nykesha Sales stole the show. The sting kept turning the ball over or they’d miss a shot and Nykesha would get the rebound. Nykesha finished the game with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. The Sun would go on the defeat the sting 73 to 63.

Before the game I sat down with Taj McWilliams-Franklin. When I asked her about how the team rebuilt from last years loss in the finals, she responded by saying “We spent a lot of time honing our skills and our coach (Mike Thibault) pick up some new players”. I also asked Taj if the team would win the finals this year because they are the best in the WNBA, her answer was “We have a chance to win; we have a 1 in 13 chance”. My last question to Taj was what the team will do against Charlotte. She said that “The team will have a fast tempo game, crisp passes and we will adjust to their zone defense”.
