Checking In With Kayla

On June 20, the Connecticut Sun acquired Kayla Pedersen from the Tulsa Shock in exchange for its second round pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft.

Pedersen, a third-year forward who played collegiately with Stanford, played in her first game in a Connecticut uniform on Sunday, June 23rd, dishing out one assist and grabbing one steal in seven minutes of action.

Recently, we sat down with Kayla to check in on life in Connecticut so far.

How is the transition going?
Its going really well. They are just kind of throwing me in there so I have to learn on the go, which is a style that I like. All my teammates have been helpful and the coaches will stay with me after practice, making sure I know all the plays. Its been a pretty smooth transition.

Did the trade surprise you?
It did. I didnt know it was coming, but at the same time its a business, so youre always on your guard.

Have you been able to explore the area at all yet? Had you spent much time in New England prior to the trade?
We played against UConn (while at Stanford) and we played against Yale, so we saw New Haven and stuff, but this is my first extended stay on the east coast.

How is it so far?
Its good. Its beautiful and the weather is perfect right now. Im really enjoying it.

Having played at Mohegan Sun Arena as a visitor, what was it like to play there the other night as a member of the Sun?
It was really nice to have such an intimate crowd right on top of you rooting for you. That made it really fun. The fans were really great. They really embraced all of us. It was a great atmosphere.
