Three Sign Training Camp Contracts With Sun

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 22, 2009) – The Connecticut Sun announced the signings of Kristi Cirone, Ashley Hayes and Carrem Gay to training camp contracts Tuesday.

As per team policy, no terms were announced.

A 5-foot-8 point guard from Illinois State University, Cirone is a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year who led the Redbirds in scoring last season, averaging 18.8 points per game. She led ISU in 10 other statistical categories and ranked second in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.57) as a senior. She is the all-time leading scorer in program history, finishing with 2,139 career points, an average of 16.6 points per game.

Hayes is a 5-foot-10 guard from Murray State who averaged 22.6 points per game as a senior. The first Murray State player to be invited to a WNBA training camp, Hayes scored 20 or more points in 19 games last season for the Racers and also topped 30 points seven times, including five games in a row. She set a school record with 46 points at Tennessee State (2/4), the most ever by a male or female player, and averaged 16.3 points per game during her career.

Gay is a 6-foot-2 forward out of Duke who finished her career ranked ninth all-time in program history with 80 blocked shots. She started 28 of 33 games as a senior at Duke, averaging 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
