UNCASVILLE, Conn. (February 3, 2009) — Old Lyme has been selected as the Connecticut Sun High School Girls’ Basketball Team of the Week, presented by WFSB Channel 3 and Friday Night Frenzy, in association with Camaro Signs of Yantic, for the week of January 26-February 1.
The Wildcats improved to 15-0 last week with victories of 52-45 over Haddam-Killingworth on January 26th, and 47-43 over North Branford on January 29th. Margaret Douglas, Megan Devlin and Catherine Logan each had 13 points in the win over H-K while Douglas had 12 points and Devlin had 10 points against North Branford.
This is the third season the Connecticut Sun has recognized a Team of the Week. Each winner will receive a commemorative plaque and a congratulatory letter from Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibault.
The Team of the Week is part of a series of initiatives undertaken by the Connecticut Sun to highlight local high school girls’ basketball, where future WNBA stars are already competing. The Sun also host a CIAC Championship luncheon, and recognize the four CIAC Class champions during a ceremony at halftime of a regular season game.
The Sun have been one of the most successful teams in the WNBA, winning more games than any team in the league since 2003 and have qualified for the playoffs every year. Season ticket plans for 2009 are on sale now and can be reserved by calling a Sun Ticket Sales Representative at 1.877.SUN.TIXX, e-mailing the Sun at tickets@connecticutsun.com or visiting www.connecticutsun.com.
