Gruda Joins Sun, Ervin Waived

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (July 3, 2009) — Sandrine Gruda has joined the Connecticut Sun after leading France to a 2009 Eurobasket Women’s Championship title in June.

Gruda, who was drafted by the Sun in the first round (13th overall) of the 2007 WNBA Draft, averaged 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds for France during the tournament. As a rookie with the Sun in 2008, Gruda appeared in 31 games, averaging 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. She tied for the team lead with blocks with 26 during her first WNBA campaign.

To make room on the 11 player roster for Gruda, the Sun waived rookie Lauren Ervin. Connecticut’s third-round draft pick in 2008, Ervin averaged 2.0 points and 1.6 rebounds per game for the Sun during the first eight games of the 2009 season.

The Sun are 4-4 following Thursday’s loss to the Indiana Fever. Connecticut will return to action at Detroit on Sunday, July 5th at 6 p.m.
