Connecticut Signs White, Waives Cirone
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (June 19, 2009) — The Connecticut Sun announced Friday it has signed former first round WNBA Draft pick Tan White to a one-year contract.
Terms were not released. To make room for White on the roster, the Sun waived Kristi Cirone.
Drafted by Indiana with the second overall pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft, the 5-foot-7 White averaged 9.2 points per game in four seasons with the Fever. She averaged a career-best 10.8 points per game in 2007, and scored 9.9 points per game last year while also collecting career highs with 101 rebounds, 80 assists and 43 steals.
Born in Tupelo, Miss., White was the 2001 Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year after leading Tupelo High to the 5A state title. She went on to star at Mississippi State, becoming just the second MSU player to reach 2,000 career points while also becoming the SEC’s all-time career steals leader with 372. She was the top scorer in NCAA Division I as a senior, averaging 23.5 points per game.
The Connecticut Sun host the Chicago Sky tonight at 7 p.m., and will be home again at Mohegan Sun Arena Sunday to face the San Antonio Silver Stars.
