Career Named Sun Team Of The Week
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (December 15, 2008) — Hill Regional Career Magnet High School of New Haven has been selected as the first Connecticut Sun High School Girls’ Basketball Team of the Week of the 2008-09 season after defeating Cheshire and Mercy.
Ranked 6th in the New Haven Register’s Preseason Top 10 Girls’ Basketball Poll, Career opened the season with a 52-41 victory over Cheshire on Wednesday, then edged No. 3 Mercy 52-50 on Friday. Anisha Wilson scored 22 points in each game, and clinched the win over Mercy with a pair of free throws in the final minute.
This is the third season the Connecticut Sun has recognized a Team of the Week. Each winner will receive a commemorative plaque and a congratulatory letter from Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibault.
The Team of the Week is part of a series of initiatives undertaken by the Connecticut Sun to highlight local high school girls’ basketball, where future WNBA stars are already competing. The Sun also host a CIAC Championship luncheon, and recognize the four CIAC Class champions during a ceremony at halftime of a regular season game.
