Internationally, Storm forward Natalia Vodopyanova's career was slow to develop. It wasn't until 2004, at the age of 23, that Vodopyanova became a key player for the Russian National Team in the Athens Olympics Games. That turned out to be to Vodopyanova's benefit, however, as she was a free agent when several WNBA teams came calling in the spring of 2005. Out of that group, Vodopyanova selected the Storm with an assist to point guard Sue Bird. Bird teamed with Vodopyanova for Moscow Dynamo and helped sell Vodopyanova on the merits of Seattle. After a slow start to her WNBA career to adjust to a new league and country, Vodopyanova earned a spot in the rotation midway through her rookie season..
