Signed by the Storm late during 2005 training camp, Francesca Zara made the roster as a backup to All-Star point guard Sue Bird. After struggling initially with the quickness of the WNBA game, Zara was forced to learn quickly after Bird broke her nose, putting Zara in the starting lineup. She emerged as a dependable backup point guard by the second half of the season. In November 2005, Zara was selected in the Expansion Draft by the Chicago Sky, but she rejoined the Storm on a training camp contract on April 20, 2007.
