Tacoma Dome Will Host Possible First-Round Playoff Game

With Five Games Remaining the Storm Needs One More Win To Clinch

SEATTLE – With a third or fourth place finish in the Western Conference, Seattle would host game two of the best-of-three series in the first round of the 2013 WNBA Playoffs on either Sept. 21 or Sept. 22. Due to a scheduling conflict at KeyArena, the team had no choice but to secure an alternate venue for potential first-round playoff dates.

Seattle has not yet clinched a playoff spot, but with the win on Thursday night over Connecticut, Seattle only needs one more win to clinch a 10th consecutive playoff berth. Seattle has five games remaining in the 2013 regular season.

“It’s really unfortunate that any first-round playoff game will be relocated from KeyArena, our home for 14 seasons and the league’s best Home Court Advantage,” said Storm President & CEO Karen Bryant. “We’re glad we were able to reach an agreement so we can shift our focus on securing a playoff spot and closing out the regular season. We are grateful to the city of Tacoma and the entire Tacoma Dome team for embracing us and working with us on a potential playoff matchup.

“We are thrilled at the chance to possibly host a WNBA playoff game,” said Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland. “We’ve extended a warm welcome to the organization and look forward to the opportunity to host the team and the loyal fans of the Seattle Storm.”

“The Tacoma Dome and the entire city of Tacoma are excited about the possibility of hosting the Storm for a record-breaking 10th playoff appearance,” said Kim Bedier, the Director of Public Assembly Facilities. “We’ll be cheering for another win and are ready for them!”

“We haven’t clinched yet so that’s where our focus is right now,” said Brian Agler, Storm head coach and general manager. “This team is mentally tough and we will come ready to play every game just as we have all season.”

The Storm will announce more details and information on a possible first-round game as well as confirmed playoff dates as soon as they become available.
