2006 Storm-Sparks Series

The Storm was the only team to win the season series with Los Angeles this season, taking two games and suffering one defeat - by just two points. Take a look back at the 2006 Storm-Sparks regular-season series:

The Sparks and Storm tipped off the season at KeyArena on Opening Night. The Storm led by nine after a foul-filled first half, but blew open the game after halftime. Seattle started the second half with a 10-0 run and never looked back, cruising to a 90-67 win. The Storm shot 52.7% from the field while limiting Los Angeles to 34.4% shooting on the other end. Wendy Palmer recorded a double-double of 128 points and 12 boards, Lauren Jackson (plagued early by foul trouble) had 23 points in 22 minutes and Sue Bird had 13 points, nine assists and a franchise-record seven steals. Lisa Leslie's 24 points led the Sparks.

With Jackson staying home to rest her sore shin, the Storm traveled to Los Angeles for its second back-to-back of 2006. Going up against a team previously undefeated at home, the Storm jumped out to a 39-28 lead by halftime. The Storm benefited from foul trouble for Sparks star Leslie, who played just 2:20 combined in the second and third quarters. That allowed the Storm to push its lead as large as 17. Los Angeles rallied in the final period, but the Storm held on 75-67. Betty Lennox carried the Storm, scoring a season-high 27 points on 11-for-21 shooting. Tamara Moore led the Sparks with 16 points.

The Storm went for the season sweep against the visiting Sparks on July 30. After leading early, the Storm trailed by as many as nine in the second quarter before rallying late. The second half was tight, with no lead larger than four points. The Storm tied it twice, including in the last two minutes, but never took the lead. With 6.4 seconds left, the Storm had a chance to tie with a 3. Lennox drove, hoping for a foul, but scored a two at the buzzer to leave the Storm a point down, 71-70. Jackson was dominant in her return, scoring 12 of her 27 points (on 10-for-16 shooting) in the final period. Leslie had 31 points, but also committed eight turnovers.
