“2008 will prove to be an exciting season in the WNBA as we will again see some great matchups of the best players in the world competing at KeyArena,” said Storm COO Karen Bryant. “This will also be an intriguing year with the Summer Olympics in the middle of our season with
Sue Bird and
Lauren Jackson competing. We look forward to another energized season of Storm basketball at KeyArena next summer and we’re continuing to work hard towards our opener on May 17.”
With more than 25 players expected to compete for the gold during the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing, China (August 8-24), the league has not scheduled any games between July 28 – August 27. Instead, the WNBA season will be extended by three weeks so WNBA players can represent their home countries in the 2008 Olympic Games.
