Postgame Quotes/Notes - L.A. 74, Storm 61

May 22, 2012

STORM HEAD COACH BRIAN AGLER:

On the game:
I think L.A. played a much better game overall than they did Friday night. I thought we've improved since Friday; we just had a bad lapse in the third quarter. We got ourselves back in the game, and in the last five minutes we just let it get away.

On the team's defense:
I thought our defense was not up to our standards. We would have some good defensive plays, and then some defensive lapses.

STORM GUARD SUE BIRD:

On starting 0-2:
It's not a nice pleasant feeling right now, but it is only the second game of the season. We can't let two games dictate who we are and who we are going to be. We are definitely going to learn from these two games and move on and continue to try and get better.

It is what it is. Each year, each team has its own path and their own journey. Unfortunately, for this one it's just going to start this way. If we were 2-0, would you crown us champs? No. So 0- 2, we'll get better.

LOS ANGELES HEAD COACH CAROL ROSS:
On the game:
We are a work in progress, but I thought defensively we were stingy, greedy, and all the things you should be on defensive end. We held them to 38.6 percent shooting and 61 points. That is a good day's work on the defensive end.

On the team's offense:
Offensively were just running a little bit behind there, but our defense is keeping us in it and that's what you do find ways to win, and right now our defense is finding the way.

LOS ANGELES FORWARD CANDACE PARKER:
On the Sparks:
I think that what is so special about this team is that we all have the same mindset. We're taking the mentality that none of us have won a championship in the last decade.

On being healthy:
I believe in blessings in disguise and I don't think I would play the game with the same mentality that I do now if I hadn't been injured.

LOS ANGELES GUARD ALANA BEARD:
On her health:
I feel great, as I've been growing through this process for two years. Right now my defense is where I feel the best at, so I'm trying to focus on that 100 percent and be that energy player to get the team going.

On fitting in to a new team:
LA is an adjustment but I'm excited that the organization, the fans, everyone has welcomed me and the newcomers with open arms. I love this energy, I love it a lot.
