Feb. 4 is National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a day that recognizes the positive influence of sports participation on the lives of girls and women, and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.

To honor this day, the Storm is giving its fans the opportunity to share their stories addressing the question: “How have girls’ and women’s athletics impacted my life?”

Storm owner Ginny Gilder and Storm Assistant Coach Shelley Patterson, along with essay judges from the Storm organization, will score the entries. Check out their responses to the essay question. The final day to submit essays is Saturday, March 6, 2009.

Age group entries are as follows:

• Age 8-13
• Age 14-18
• 19 years of age and older

Three runners-up (one in each age category) will each receive four tickets to the Storm’s home preseason game. Each runner-up will also have his or her essay posted on storm.wnba.com. In addition, the first 100 entrants will get two tickets to the Storm’s home preseason game. Click here for the official contest rules.
