The Seattle Storm announced Saturday that guard/forward
Shaunzinski Gortman tore the ACL in her right knee during Friday's win over the New York Liberty. Gortman will likely miss the remainder of the 2006 season.
Gortman, signed as a free agent on March 16, had emerged as the Storm's top defensive stopper. Seeing action in all 20 of the Storm's games, Gortman had averaged 2.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game.

Gortman suffered the injury while dribbling on a fast break with 2:35 left in the Storm's 86-66 win, collapsing to the floor before being helped up. Gortman was able to walk after the game, but was diagnosed with a torn ACL today nonetheless.

In Gortman's absence,
Iziane Castro Marques and
Tanisha Wright should see more action as the Storm's perimeter reserves.
