Storm Signs Shaunzinski Gortman

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today signed 6-1 forward Shaunzinski Gortman to a training-camp contract, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan announced. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Gortman holds career averages of 2.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 10.5 minutes in two WNBA seasons with Minnesota. She returned to the WNBA mid-season in 2004 playing four games with the Washington Mystics. Her best statistical year came in 2002 when she played in 29 games while averaging 3.1 points and 2.10 rebounds. Gortman recently averaged 16.4 points and 10.4 rebounds in 18 games for Maccabi Ashdod in Israel.

Gortman was drafted by the Charlotte Sting in the first round (ninth overall selection) of the 2002 WNBA Draft. She was then traded on April 19, 2002 to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for forwards Erin Buescher and Maylana Martin.

The Storm will open their 2006 season against Western Conference rival Los Angeles at KeyArena on Sunday, May 21 at 6 p.m. The following Tuesday, May 23, Seattle will host the Houston Comets at 8 p.m. at the Key. The Storm vs. Comets game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
