RECAP

The Storm had opportunities to steal Friday's Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals series at Minnesota, but ultimately could not make enough plays down the stretch of a 78-70 loss. The host Lynx opened the game with a 9-1 run as the Storm struggled to score in the early going, but tough defense kept Minnesota from ever completely pulling away. The Storm rallied to tie the game late in the first quarter and was down just six at halftime. The Lynx were up 12with 5:07 to play before the Storm held Minnesota scoreless for more than three minutes, cutting the deficit in half. During the final minute, the Storm had possession down three, but Lauren Jackson missed a three and Minnesota finished out the win at the free throw line.

The Storm relied heavily on its depth, with the bench outscoring its Lynx counterparts 26-5. Rookie reserve Shekinna Stricklen led the team with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Tina Thompson added nine points and seven boards. Lauren Jackson, who played a season-high 27 minutes, scored 11 of her 12 points in the first half before Minnesota clamped down on her. Katie Smith also scored 12. The Storm's backcourt struggled from the field. Sue Bird scored eight points and committed five turnovers. Tanisha Wright shot 2-of-10 from the field, though she handed out a game-high seven assists. Lindsay Whalen scored 20 points and Seimone Augustus 19 for the Lynx, who have won their last seven playoff games.

QUOTABLE
"I didn't get the looks I was getting in the first half. They changed their defense up. We definitely have to look at how we're going to combat that next game."
- Lauren Jackson
