A better start led to a better finish for the Storm Friday in Tulsa. After falling behind early throughout this five-game road trip, the Storm opened up with a 10-2 run and never surrendered the lead in the season's first win away from KeyArena. The Shock got as close as two in the second quarter, but the Storm scored 15 points in the final 2:35 of the half, capped by Katie Smith banking in a three from midcourt to beat the buzzer. Tulsa never seriously threatened after halftime as the Storm won 86-73.
Sue Bird continued her hot shooting against the Shock. Bird made her first nine shot attempts and finished with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-5 from downtown. Bird added a season-high seven rebounds. Katie Smith and Tina Thompson were also on from long distance, combining for seven threes and scoring 33 points (17 for Smith, 16 for Thompson). Rookie Shekinna Stricklen added 12 points and Tanisha Wright served as playmaker, handing out seven assists. Jennifer Lacy led four Tulsa players in double figures with 16 points.

"We came in here needing a win. I know Tulsa needs wins also, but we are a team that's been on the road and haven't had any success so tonight we were focused."
