Competing on the road with the defending WNBA champions, undefeated this season, proved too much to ask of a Storm team still looking to find its identity with a new lineup. The Storm hung in early behind tough defense, but a 15-1 run pushed the Minnesota Lynx's lead to 16 midway through the third quarter. The closest the Storm got thereafter was 12 late in the third quarter before five consecutive Lynx points quelled the uprising. The common denominator to the run was Maya Moore three-pointers. The 2011 Rookie of the Year made five threes in seven attempts, scoring a game-high 19 points.

Downtown was also the primary source of Storm offense. The team tied franchise records for makes (14) and attempts (34) from three-point range, with seven of the eight players who saw action making at least one three. Reserves Katie Smith and Shekinna Stricklen (who scored a career-high 12 points) knocked down three apiece. The Storm shot just 34.4 percent on two-point shots, seeing seven of them rejected. Ann Wauters, who led the team with 13 points and nine boards, was the only Storm player who got anything going inside.
