Storm Invites Three to 2010 Training Camp

SEATTLE - Seattle Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Brian Agler announced today the additions of 6-3 forward Abby Bishop, 6-1 forward Laura Kurz and 6-foot guard/forward Aja Parham to the 2010 training camp roster.

Bishop, 21, recently concluded the 2009-10 WNBL season with the champion Canberra Capitals. Bishop averaged 12.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. The two-time WNBL Champion won her first title with Canberra during the 2008-09 season and additionally was named the league’s “leading rebounder” after averaging 10.7 rebounds in the regular season.


Parham

Bishop debuted for the Opals in 2007 during a three-game series on a tour of the United States and played in the 2007 Oceania series against New Zealand and Fiji. She averaged 10.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game during the 2007 U21 World Championship in Russia after tallying 83 points and 59 rebounds while playing 185 minutes in eight games which included winning a silver medal. She then averaged 12.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game during the 2007 U19 World Championships after tallying 115 points and 96 rebounds in nine games at an average of 26 minutes per game. She is a member of the current Opals squad and toured China and Europe with the team in 2009.

Kurz, a 2009 graduate of Villanova University, is currently averaging 17.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 assists in 20 games with Ano Liosa in Greece. The 6-1 forward played in two seasons for the Wildcats after transferring from Duke and averaged 17.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 blocked shots in 33 games during her senior year. Kurz led Villanova in scoring 25 times and in rebounds 22 times in 2008-09.

Parham, a member of the 2009 Storm training camp roster, is currently averaging 12.4 points and 5.1 rebounds for Basket Landes in France. The 6-foot guard/forward played in one preseason game for the Storm in 2009 (collecting three points, one rebound, one assist and one block) before being waived on June 4.

Parham played the two previous seasons in Portugal for Olivais Coimbra, averaging 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.0 assists per game in 2008-09; she averaged 19.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.6 steals and 3.3 assists during the 2007-08 season. A 2006 graduate of Boston College, Parham was the team’s co-captain and played in all 33 games during her senior season. Also as a senior, Parham was named to the ACC All-Defensive First Team and led the Eagles with 67 steals while averaging 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

The Seattle Storm will open its 2010 WNBA schedule on Sunday, May 16 in a 6 p.m. matchup versus the Sparks at KeyArena. The Storm will play on national television four times with all broadcasts airing on ESPN2. Highlighting the Storm’s national television coverage is a KeyArena home game against defending WNBA champion and league MVP Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27.
