Bird Wins Cascade Dish and Assist Award

NEW YORK - Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird is the winner of the 2005 Cascade Dish & Assist Award, the WNBA announced today.

This is Bird’s first WNBA assist title, as she averaged 5.9 assists per game in 2005. The All-Star posted seven or more assists in 15 of 30 games and finished the year with an assist to turnover ratio that ranked fourth in the league.

Her career assist average of 5.9 is the second highest in WNBA history, trailing only Sacramento’s Ticha Penicheiro’s 6.6 assists per game, and in just four seasons in the league, she is already ranked eighth in total career assists with 772.

Introduced during the 2003 season, the Cascade Dish & Assist Award is given to the league's leader in assists, with the winner receiving a one-year supply of Cascade and a Tiffany trophy.
