Sue Bird Named WNBA Player of the Week

Bird, a 2005 WNBA All-Star, recorded nine points, seven assists and five rebounds as Seattle defeated San Antonio on Aug. 23, 78-51. Two nights later, Bird finished with 12 points, five assists and two rebounds as Seattle knocked off Sacramento 76-63 and secured the No. 2 seed and home-court advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. In the final game of the regular season, Bird tied her season high with 20 points and added seven assists on 7-of-12 shooting in helping the Storm defeat Phoenix 85-74. Seattle’s victory over the Mercury was its ninth consecutive home win, a franchise record.
