Storm Waives Barnes

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today requested waivers on 5-11 forward Veteran Adia Barnes.

Barnes, a member of the 2004 WNBA Champion Storm, averaged 2.0 points, 1.9 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per game in 34 games played last season. Barnes was allotted to the Storm as a free agent on April 25, 2002. Barnes played 76 games over three seasons with the Storm, starting 35 of them.

Barnes enjoyed her best season in Seattle in 2003, averaging 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and shooting 38.7% from 3-point range while starting all 16 games she played before suffering a torn left ACL.

Francesca Zara, a 5-10 guard from Italy, signed with the Storm as a free agent on May 17. Russian forward Natalia Vodopyanova, who signed with the Storm as a free agent on April 6, reported to training camp on May 15. The arrival of the two players brings the Storm's training camp roster to 13.

The defending WNBA Champion Storm will open their 2005 season on ABC-TV against their Western Conference rival Los Angeles Sparks at KeyArena on Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. The following weekend, Seattle will host the Houston Comets on Friday, May 27 and the San Antonio Silver Stars on Sunday, May 29.

In the season opener against the Sparks, the 2004 WNBA Championship banner will be raised to the KeyArena rafters. The festivities will also feature Storm players receiving their championship rings.

Single-game tickets for Storm games can be purchased through TicketMaster by logging on to storm.wnba.com or calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX. Storm tickets are also available at the Sonics & Storm Team Shop located at 312 First Ave on KeyArena’s West Plaza.

The Seattle Sonics & Storm manages the Puget Sound region’s professional basketball franchises – the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics and the WNBA’s Seattle Storm. The organization oversees all sales, marketing, finance, public relations and basketball operations for the teams. The Basketball Club of Seattle LLC owns both teams.
