Seattle Storm Sign Forward Alicia Thompson

SEATTLE, Feb. 10 -- The Seattle Storm today signed 6-1 forward Alicia Thompson, Storm Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Anne Donovan announced.

A first-round pick in the 1998 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty, Thompson is a four-year veteran with career averages of 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 90 games. Following her rookie season with the Liberty, Thompson spent three years with the Indiana Fever.

“Alicia is a high-energy athlete who I had the opportunity to work with when I coached Indiana,” Donovan said. “She is very versatile and able to play both forward positions. She is also one of the most positive people I’ve ever been around and I look forward to adding her to our training-camp roster.”

Last year, Thompson played with Ramle in Israel and averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds.

She is currently playing with the Houston Stealth of the National Women’s Basketball League (NWBL).

A graduate of Texas Tech, Thompson was named the Big 12 Player of the Year as a senior and finished her collegiate career second on the school’s all-time scoring list with 2,156 points.

The Storm will open the 2004 WNBA season on Thursday, May 20 against Minnesota at KeyArena.
