A Training Camp Update From Coach Klop
We have some free agents and veteran players that have contributed greatly to making this the most competitive Storm camp yet. Adia Barnes has been a nice surprise so far. A power forward in college, Barnes has worked hard to develop her outside shot and driving ability and also has a fierce defensive mentality to her game.
Semeka Randall has returned from a stint in Israel as a much-improved jump shooter with an ability to hit the open three point shot. Her high-energy defense is good for a few steals a game and her decision making in the open court is vastly improved. "Meek" is primed to have an excellent sophomore season in the WNBA.
Lauren Jackson hit the weights hard in the off season, increasing her upper body strength. That should allow her to post up more effectively in the low block. She has added some low-post power moves that should help her inside scoring and ability to get to the free throw line. She is improving her defensive techniques and intensity on a daily basis and can be one of the better shot blockers in the WNBA this year.
Michelle Marciniak brings her lunch pail everyday and continues to work hard on her game. She runs the floor as hard as any and can score in bunches when she gets it going.
Simone Edwards and Quacy Barnes also improved their games while playing in Israel this offseason. Simone is a good finesse rebounder and is getting to the offensive boards hard all the time. She has a soft touch inside and is working on her midrange jump shot and driving game. With excellent quickness for a post player, Simone can continue to improve and expand her game. Quacy is finishing better inside and has hit the open 15' shot with consistency. She loves contact and is not afraid to take a hit inside and of course, not averse to dishing one out as well.
Jamie Redd benefited from off-season development with an improved shooting touch and better handles. She is capable of playing a tough, physical brand of defense as well and can rebound from the guard spot. Jamie could have a break-out year with consistent efforts each time out.
