APRIL 1
Named Associated Press' Player of the Year for senior season at Texas Tech, having averaged 28.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

APRIL 4
Scores 47 points to set an NCAA Championship Game record and lead Texas Tech to the title with an 84-82 win over Ohio State at The Omni in Atlanta, Ga.

1994

FEBRUARY 19
Texas Tech University retires Swoopes' No. 22 jersey.

1996

AUGUST 3
In front of more than 30,000 fans in Atlanta's Georgia Dome, the U.S. Women defeat Brazil 111-86 to win Olympic gold. Swoopes scores 16 points in the victory.

OCTOBER 23
Swoopes becomes the first player to sign with the new Women's National Basketball Association.

1997

JANUARY 22
The WNBA assigns Swoopes to the Houston Comets along with former USC star Cynthia Cooper as part of the league's initial player allocation.

JUNE 25
Swoopes gives birth to a son, Jordan. Swoopes would miss the first 19 games of the season due to pregnancy before making her WNBA debut on Aug. 7 vs. Phoenix.

AUGUST 30
Comets win inaugural WNBA championship, defeating New York Liberty 65-51 in championship game.

1998

SEPTEMBER 1
Comets defeat Phoenix Mercury 80-71 to win Game 3 of the WNBA Finals and their second consecutive WNBA championship. Swoopes averages 12.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists in three Finals games.

1999

JULY 14
Voted a starter for the Western Conference in the inaugural WNBA All-Star Game at Madison Square Garden. Scores eight points and grabs eight rebounds in the West's 79-61 victory.

JULY 27
Makes WNBA history by recording the league's first triple-double (14 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists) in an 85-46 win over Detroit.

AUGUST 8
Becomes the eighth player in league history to score 1,000 career points in a game against New York.

SEPTEMBER 5
With a 59-47 Game 3 win over New York, the Comets claim their third consecutive WNBA title. Swoopes scores 11 points.

2000

AUGUST 18
Honored as the WNBA's MVP for the first time, having averaged a league-leading 20.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game for the Comets, who finished with a 27-5 record.

AUGUST 26
Swoopes scores a game-high 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting as the Comets beat the Liberty 79-73 to sweep the best-of-three WNBA Finals and win their fourth WNBA championship in as many years.

OCTOBER 1
Swoopes wins her second gold medal as the USA defeats host Australia 76-54 in the gold-medal game of the Sydney Olympics. Swoopes posts 14 points and nine rebounds for the U.S.

2001

APRIL 23
Tears ACL in her left knee during a workout. Surgery, performed on May 1, forces Swoopes to miss the entire 2001 WNBA season.

2002

JUNE 30
Swoopes scores her 2,000th career point in a win at Los Angeles, joining seven other players to reach the milestone.

AUGUST 20
Voted WNBA's MVP, having averaged 18.5 points, 4.9 assists and 3.3 steals per game and won Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career.

2003

AUGUST 31
Receives 35 of a possible 54 votes to win her third Defensive Player of the Year award and second straight, having led the WNBA with 2.48 steals per game.

2004

JUNE 18
Scores then-career-high-tying 33 points in 69-63 loss to the Storm at the Toyota Center, becoming fifth WNBA player to reach 3,000 career points in the process.

AUGUST 28
The USA defeats Australia 74-63 to claim gold in the Athens Olympics, Swoopes' third gold medal.

2005

JULY 9
Named MVP of the WNBA All-Star Game, having scored 15 points in the West's 122-99 victory.

JULY 27
Records her 500th career steal at New York, becoming first WNBA player to reach the milestone.

AUGUST 9
Scores career-high 34 points against Storm at KeyArena, though the Storm prevails 71-68.

SEPTEMBER 3
Swoopes becomes the first WNBA player to record a postseason triple-double, putting up 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as Houston defeats the Storm 75-58 at KeyArena to win Game 3 and take their best-of-three playoff series 2-1.

SEPTEMBER 18
Wins the WNBA's MVP award, becoming the first WNBA player to win three MVPs.

2006

JUNE 13
Joins nine other players on the WNBA's All-Decade Team.

JUNE 16
In a 72-58 win at New York, Swoopes becomes the third WNBA player to score her 4,000th career point.

2008

MARCH 3
Signs with Seattle Storm as free agent, changing teams after 11 years in Houston.
