Point Foundation is the nation’s largest scholarship organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students of merit. Point provides financial support, mentoring and hope to meritorious students who have been marginalized because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Our program is comprehensive in that we provide not only financial support but also leadership training and mentoring to help our scholars succeed in school and in life.
Now in our tenth year of helping students, Point Foundation was founded in 2001 by Bruce Lindstrom whose own struggle of trying to educate himself without the benefit of an emotionally or financially supportive family inspired him to create a resource for academically gifted students with nowhere to turn. Point provides its scholars with emotional support and financial ability to attend the nation’s foremost higher education institutions and provides its donors and mentors with the satisfaction of directly investing their resources and time in future leaders.
Point Foundation provides Point Scholars with financial support that may be used to cover expenses such as tuition, books and supplies, room and board or general living expenses. Scholars receive intensive, interactive training in diverse and pertinent topics such as leadership development, accountability, community service guidance, advocacy, LGBT history, and philanthropy. Scholars are also matched with Point Mentors, successful professionals who build rewarding, personal relationships and serve as exemplary role models. Scholars are required to maintain a 3.3 GPA and give back to the community by annually designing and executing a service project that impacts the LGBT community.
