The Storm is committed to working hard both on and off the court. Throughout the year, Storm players, owners and staff participate in community events, partner with organizations, donate auction items, and provide support for a wide range of programs.

Storm players set an example for how education, hard work and dreaming big can help youth and teens build self-esteem and achieve their goals. Together with our sponsors and the WNBA, the Storm is committed to assisting the community through programs the emphasize youth basketball, health and fitness, education and literacy, and support for women and girls.

The Storm is a strong supporter of youth basketball in Washington state, and offers camps, clinics and programs for coaches and players, including:

Jr. Storm
The Jr. Storm program supports recreational girls and boys basketball teams as part of the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA program. By registering for Jr. Storm, youth coaches, players, parents and game officials receive exclusive access to coaches’ clinics, admission to special Storm events, and special offers and discounts. Storm Youth Basketball Camps
All kids ages 7-14 are invited to the 2009 Seattle Storm Youth Basketball Camp July 7-10 at the Storm's practice facility. Campers will learn a variety of basketball skills, meet Storm players and coaches, and attend the Storm's Annual Kids Day noon game on July 7 vs. San Antonio at the Key. The Seattle Storm is committed to helping Seattle-area children get an early start on developing reading skills that will help them do well in school and in life:

Read to Achieve
The Storm sponsors an incentive-based program designed to encourage students in grades 1-8 to develop strong reading skills. More details are coming soon about the 2009 program, which will be launched during the spring.

Fast Break To Reading
The WNBA and Pitney Bowes have joined forces to sponsor the Fast Break To Reading Program, which is designed to educate youth about reading and to engage fans while raising funds for community-based literacy programs.

Fast Break to Reading includes Reading Time-Outs, where Storm players read to children during visits to schools and community centers, and the sponsorship of Reading & Learning Centers.

Reading & Learning Centers
The Storm is dedicated to providing access to Reading and Learning Centers for Western Washington youth, including funding for updated facilities, books and other vital resources to youth programs in need.

In June 2008, the Storm plans to unveil a refurbished Reading & Learning Center at First A.M.E. Child and Family Center in Seattle, the result of a national competition presented by Pitney Bowes that involved six WNBA teams.

The WNBA Fit initiative was created to encourage girls and women to live healthier, more active lives through simple changes in your daily routine. Throughout the year, the Storm will work with community partners to sponsor Fit clinics throughout the Puget Sound area. More information >>

Breast Health Awareness
The Storm supports the WNBA’s Breast Health Awareness program, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and works to generate awareness and educate women on what can be done to fight breast cancer. More information >>

Fan Fitness Event of the Month
From organized walking to running to stair-climbing, we highlight one fitness-oriented event each month during the 2009 Storm season that gives our fans an opportunity to stay active. Check back shortly for more details.

Food, Clothing and Toy Drives
Every year, the organization encourages fans to donate cans of food, clothing, toys and school supplies at designated Storm games throughout the WNBA season.

Tickets for Kids
The Storm and its sponsors generously support the Tickets for Kids program, which provides Puget Sound youth with an opportunity to attend a home Storm basketball game. In 2008, the Storm gave tickets to 63 Western Washington organizations, ensuring that children were able to see some of the WNBA’s finest athletes compete. More information >>

Auction Donations
The Community Relations department makes every effort to fulfill requests from non-profit organizations that qualify under the Storm’s established donation criteria. In 2008, the Storm contributed more than $12,000 worth of auction items to non-profit fund-raising events. More information >>

Community Appearances
Storm players, coaches and owners enjoy interacting with community members. In addition, members of the Storm ownership group and executive staff are available to speak to groups through our Storm Executive Speakers Board. More information >>
