Dan Hughes to Join Western Conference Coaching Staff for 2011-12 WNBA All-Star Game

NEW YORK – San Antonio Silver Stars’ general manager and head coach Dan Hughes will serve as an assistant coach under the Seattle Storm’s Brian Agler, who will lead the Western Conference, during the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game presented by adidas, the league announced today. Hughes will replace Storm assistant coach Nancy Darsch, who will be tending to a family matter.

There are strong ties that connect Hughes and Agler dating back several years. After serving as head coach of the Minnesota Lynx and as an assistant with the Phoenix Mercury, Agler signed on as assistant coach with the Silver Stars under Hughes’ direction, spending three seasons (2005-07) on the Silver Stars bench. In 2007, Agler helped to guide the Silver Stars to its most successful season in San Antonio at the time, 20-14.

The 2011 WNBA All-Star Game presented by adidas will be nationally broadcast on ABC, Saturday, July 23 at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. CT) from San Antonio. It is the first time the San Antonio Silver Stars are hosting the WNBA’s midseason showcase.
