Adams and Robinson Named to WNBA All-Rookie Team
Selected sixth overall in the 2011 WNBA Draft, Robinson played in all 34 games for the Silver Stars this season, starting nine. She led all rookies in assists per game (3.9) and notched 14 double-figure scoring games while averaging 8.2 points per game. The Oklahoma University alumni capped off the regular season with a franchise rookie record 36 points in the 102-94 overtime victory at Tulsa on Sept. 11, the most points by a WNBA rookie this season.
Adams, the 20th overall pick in the 2011 Draft, earned June Rookie of the Month honors and was a consistent option off the bench in her first season. Adams missed 11 games due to a mid-foot sprain, but finished the season averaging 12.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. She was also selected by the Western Conference coaches as a 2011 WNBA All-Star reserve.
Robinson and Adams are the fourth set of teammates in league history to earn All-Rookie Team honors in the same season following Connecticut’s Tina Charles and Kelsey Griffin (2010), Minnesota’s Candice Wiggins and Nicky Anosike (2008) and Los Angeles’ Sidney Spencer and Marta Fernandez (2007). They are the third and fourth Silver Stars to earn the honor – which has been presented since 2005 – following Sophia Young (2006) and Camille Little (2007).
The duo joins Minnesota Rookie of the Year Maya Moore, Tulsa’s Liz Cambage and Chicago’s Courtney Vandersloot on the 2011 All-Rookie squad.
The voting panel consisted of the WNBA’s 12 head coaches, who chose five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Moore and Robinson were unanimous selections, earning 11 votes apiece while Vandersloot received 10 and Cambage and Adams each had nine.
