Ziomara Morrison Re-Signs with Silver Stars
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Silver Stars center Ziomara Morrison has signed on to return to the team in 2013, head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“Zio was a valuable part of the Silver Stars last season and made a lot of improvement in her first year in the WNBA,” Hughes said. “We look forward to watching her continued growth in 2013.”
Signed as a free agent during the 2011-12 offseason, Morrison made her WNBA debut with the Silver Stars after playing internationally for five seasons. Morrison played in 30 games during her rookie season, averaging 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. She netted a season-high 12 points in 15 minutes against Seattle on June 6 and had a season-best four rebounds against Minnesota in the regular-season finale on Sept. 23.
A 6-4 center, Morrison is currently playing for Spain’s Rivas Ecopolis where she is averaging 2.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game through 22 games, both domestic and EuroLeague.
A native of Santiago, Chile, Morrison has been a member of the Chilean National Senior Women’s Team since 2006. She most recently represented Chile at the FIBA South American Championships, averaging 18.5 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game through four tournament games.
