Stars Select Laura Harper in Dispersal Draft

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Silver Stars selected Laura Harper (5th pick) in the WNBA Dispersal Draft of Sacramento Monarchs players, it was announced today by general manager and head coach Dan Hughes.

The 6-5 forward/center played two seasons in Sacramento, where she averaged 5.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 15.2 minutes in 67 games played. She had a career - high 12 rebounds at Atlanta (7/22/08) and finished the 2008 season ranked 15th in the WNBA in total offensive rebounds (68).

“We are excited to add a talented young post player with excellent rebounding skills,” said Hughes. “One area that is important for us to improve upon next season (2010) is rebounding, and Laura is a good beginning to that goal.”

Harper played four seasons at the University of Maryland, finishing her career ranked fourth all-time in career rebounds (873) and scoring over 1,400 points. Her senior season (2007-08), she started all 37 games averaging a career-leading 14.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. In 2005-06, she was named the 2006 NCAA Tournament Final Four Most Outstanding Player, helping the Terps to their first national title in school history.
