Gameday Preview: Silver Stars vs. Fever
Silver Stars vs. Fever
5.11.13 | 1:00 PM | AT&T Center
It marks the first game in a home-and-away preseason series between the teams. Game two will take place in Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday, May 15 at 11 a.m. CT. The teams kick off the WNBA season with the first official game of the 2013 season on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. in the AT&T Center.
San Antonio and Indiana split the 2012 regular-season series, with each team winning its road game. The Silver Stars executed the second-largest turnaround in franchise history in the first regular-season meeting at Indiana on July 5, rallying from an 18-point deficit to a 16-point, 88-72, win in what would prove to be the fifth-consecutive victory of the team’s franchise-record 12-game win streak. Indiana won the next meeting, 82-78, at the AT&T Center on Sept. 7. The teams also met in a home-and-away preseason series in 2012, with the Fever winning both meetings.
The preseason opener caps off the first week of Silver Stars training camp, which began on Sunday, May 5. The Silver Stars training camp roster includes eight players from the 2012 roster – Danielle Adams, Jayne Appel, Shameka Christon, Becky Hammon, Shenise Johnson, Jia Perkins, Danielle Robinson and Sophia Young. Due to overseas commitments, Hammon and Johnson were not in camp on week one and will not play in the first preseason game. Both are due in camp on Monday, May 13. Young will be in attendance but will not play due to an ACL injury sustained during the offseason.
Joining the incumbents in camp are 17-year WNBA veteran Delisha Milton-Jones, who was acquired during free agency in the offseason, as well as 2013 WNBA Draft picks Kayla Alexander (eighth overall selection) and Davellyn Whyte (16th overall selection). Rounding out the training camp roster are forward Christine Flores – a San Antonio native who played at Missouri, former Baylor guard Jordan Madden, former Ohio State guard Amber Stokes, three-year overseas veteran guard Yvonne Turner and forward Julie Wojta – who saw limited action with Minnesota last season.
Tickets for the preseason game are available now, with lower level seats starting at $11, online at SASilverStars.com or by phone at (210) 444-5090.
