Silver Stars Superlatives - Game of the Year
June 1 vs. Phoenix Mercury – San Antonio commemorated its Ten Years in Texas with a special pregame ceremony including WNBA President Laurel Richie before the Silver Stars defeated the Mercury, 85-66, to earn its first home win of the season. Guard Becky Hammon led the Silver Stars with a season-high 30 points, including a franchise-record seven made 3-pointers.
June 16 vs. Los Angeles Sparks – All the Silver Stars needed was overtime to defeat the Sparks, 98-85, in the first meeting of the season between the teams. Guard Becky Hammon and forward Sophia Young each had 24 points as San Antonio outscored Los Angeles, 15-2, in overtime.
July 1 vs. Minnesota Lynx – San Antonio defeated the defending champions, 93-84, in the AT&T Center, marking the Silver Stars second-consecutive win against the Lynx at home. Guard Becky Hammon led the team with 23 points and eight assists while forward Sophia Young had a double-double, 22 points and 10 rebounds, in the win.
July 5 at Indiana Fever – San Antonio posted the largest comeback and largest turnaround in franchise history with its 88-72 win at Indiana. The Silver Stars rallied from an 18-point deficit to a 16-point win for a 34-point turnaround against the eventual WNBA champions. Four players scored in double-figures for the Silver Stars, led by guard Becky Hammon’s 19 points.
August 21 vs. Washington Mystics – The Silver Stars opened their post-Olympic Break home schedule with a 75-72 win against the Washington Mystics. The win was the 12th-consecutive for San Antonio, marking a franchise record win streak as well as the longest win streak in the WNBA for the 2012 season. Guard Becky Hammon led San Antonio with 22 points while Danielle Robinson added 16 and center Jayne Appel collected a game-best 10 rebounds.
August 25 vs. Tulsa Shock – San Antonio extended its home win streak to nine games with a 91-71 win against the visiting Shock. Four players scored in double figures for the Silver Stars, led by guard Jia Perkins’ 21 points. In its annual Breast Health Awareness Night, the Silver Stars wore special pink-accented uniforms, which they sold in a live, postgame auction. Proceeds from the auction benefitted the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Mobile Mammography Unit as well as Silver & Black Give Back.
September 18 vs. New York – The Silver Stars defeated the Liberty, 77-66, in a nationally televised game on ESPN2. Guard Danielle Robinson led all scorers with 21 points while forward Sophia Young had a game-best 10 rebounds.
September 23 vs. Minnesota – San Antonio capped the regular season with a 99-84 win against the Lynx. In a full team effort, six players scored in double figures for the Silver Stars, led by Danielle Adams’ game-high 28 points. Center Tangela Smith ranked second on the team with a season-best 10 points and career-high six assists.
