Silver Stars Superlatives - Newcomer of the Year

With the 2012 Silver Stars season in the books, is giving fans the opportunity to cast their vote on team and season superlatives.

Over the next four weeks, Silver Stars fans will have the opportunity to vote on the Newcomer of the Year, Sixth Woman of the Year, Performance of the Year and Game of the Year. Candidates for each category will be announced every Wednesday.

Newcomer of the Year

Four new faces joined the Silver Stars roster in 2012. San Antonio signed seven-year WNBA veteran forward Shameka Christon and added Chilean rookie center Ziomara Morrison during free agency. Veteran center Tangela Smith was acquired in a trade with Indiana, in exchange for guard Roneeka Hodges, and the Silver Stars added University of Miami guard Shenise Johnson with the fifth overall selection in the 2012 WNBA Draft.

Anyone who was not previously a member of the Silver Stars prior to the 2012 season is eligible for Newcomer of the Year honors.

2011 Winner Danielle Robinson

Rookie guard Danielle Robinson won the fan vote for Newcomer of the Year honors last season, beating out fellow rookie Danielle Adams by 42 votes.

Shameka Christon Played in all 36 games, making 33 starts at forward Averaged 7.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.5 blocks per game through the regular-season Averaged 8.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game through the playoffs.

Shenise Johnson Played in all 36 games, making one start Averaged 5.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.8 steals per game through the regular season Led all rookies with a 41.2 3-point field goal percentage Set a rookie record against Minnesota on Sept. 23, going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.

Ziomara Morrison Played in 30 games Averaged 2.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game Scored a career-high 12 points in 15 minutes against Seattle on June 9.

Tangela Smith Played in 15 games after missing 16 games prior to the Olympic Break due to arthroscopic knee surgery Averaged 2.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game through the regular season Notched a season-best 15 points against Minnesota in the regular-season finale on Sept. 23.
