Western Conference Finals Information to Sparks MVPs from Kathy & Carla

Dear Sparks MVP,

We are incredibly excited that so many of you have chosen to join us to cheer on the Sparks through the playoffs.

We know by talking to a lot of you in the arena and corresponding with you by email that many of you have questions and concerns about the playoff schedule and logistics and we thought it best to try to answer all the questions we have been getting through this correspondence.

As most of you know, having been through a playoff run in the past, dates and times for playoff games are set only after the teams and seeding have been set. As is so often the case, up until the second to last day of the regular season, we could have been seeded 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the West. As a result, it was possible our first playoff game could have been any of Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday in LA.

To further complicate matters, because of the Olympic hiatus, our season ran later than it has in the past and so we had difficulty accommodating all of our possible dates at STAPLES Center. They have worked very closely with us to clear everything possible in their arena, prioritizing our schedule to the extent possible. The reality is that an arena like STAPLES often books in events well in excess of a year in advance, so our schedule change made for some difficult conflicts. They worked on our behalf to ensure that the Galen Center on the campus of USC, a state of the art arena, was held open for us in case of a conflict, so we could stay as close to home as possible.

As a result, as the season ended, we were unsure when we would be playing, who we would be playing or where we would be playing, but we knew we were into the post-season! That made everything a little more complicated than we would have liked, but didn't dampen our enthusiasm!

We can now confirm the following schedule:

Western Conference Finals:

All games will be played at the Galen Center at USC. If San Antonio beats Sacramento tonight, we will play at Galen on Thursday. If Sacramento prevails, then we will play at Galen on Saturday (and Sunday, if necessary.)

WNBA Championship Series:

The STAPLES Center has cleared all dates for us, so all home games for Sparks will be played there. Those games are scheduled for October 1, 3, 5, 6 and 9 (if necessary). If we are the higher seed, we will play the first, second and fifth games in LA. If we are lower seed, we will play the third and fourth games in LA.

Once we beat Seattle tomorrow (and that is what we're all rooting for!), then it's off to Galen Center, so here's the information you need for that game:

Tickets:

Many of you picked up your second and third round tickets on Friday night. We did our very best to put you in seats that were the closest equivalent to your seats at STAPLES Center, based on your seniority as Sparks MVPs. The configuration of Galen is close to STAPLES, so your seats should not be too different.

If you have not received your second and third round tickets, you have the following options:

  • Print at home through Account Manager
  • Will call at the first game at Galen Center
  • Pick them up at our offices in downtown LA
  • We can mail to your home

Our account executives will be contacting you to make sure you understand your options, but you should also feel free to call or email them with your preference or if you have questions. (If you don't know who your account executive is, please call Gina Fabrocini at 213 929-1304 or email her at gfabrocini@la-sparks.com and she will make sure you are taken care of.)

If you haven't bought tickets for the upcoming games, there's still time to join the excitement! Please visit www.lasparks.com to buy them or call 877-WNBA TIX. Please note that tickets are going on-sale for the Conference Finals at 10:00am this morning.

Parking:

Being longtime Angelenos, we know this is an issue. Because we were not sure where or when we were playing, it was virtually impossible for us to arrange for pre-paid parking in the post-season. We apologize for this inconvenience. For the Galen Center games, USC has a fair amount of convenient parking. Please click here to see a parking map. USC has also agreed to reduce parking from $20 to $10 for our games there.

We are working with STAPLES Center to make sure all available parking is open for our Championship Series and will be sending you a follow-up email to confirm the details.

We cannot tell you how excited we are to be in the playoffs, and Coop and the players have repeatedly said they would not be here without all of your support. We continue to be inspired and buoyed by your unwavering support for our team, and we value you as members of the Sparks family.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with additional questions or comments at kgoodman@la-sparks.com and cchristofferson@la-sparks.com. You can also call our offices at 877-44-SPARKS, or you can call your account representative directly.

We look forward to cheering with you throughout our run to a championship!

Regards,

Kathy and Carla
