Los Angeles Sparks Sign Former Bruin to Training Camp Contract

Darxia Morris Led UCLA in Scoring in Her 2011 Senior Season

The Los Angeles Sparks have signed UCLA alumna Darxia Morris to a training camp contract, Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler announced today.

In 20 games this season for Israel’s Maccabi Ramat Hen, Morris averaged 11.4 points, 2.1 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game in 31.4 minutes.

In 2011, the 5’8” guard, led the Bruins with 12.2 points per game in her senior season. She averaged 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 45.6% from the field.

Morris was honored with first-team All-Pac-10 honors, Pac-10 All-Tournament acclaim and honorable mention Pac-10 All-Defensive honors. She started all 33 games for the Bruins that season, leading the team to a 28-5 finish and school records in regular season wins (26) and Pac-10 Conference victories (16).

Morris previously attended the Tulsa Shock training camp prior to the 2011 WNBA season.

The Sparks tip-off the 2012 season Friday, May 18 at the Seattle Storm before the same two teams do battle at STAPLES Center on Sunday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m.
