SPARKS JOIN WITH LA MISSION TO FEED SKID ROW
The Los Angeles Sparks joined up with the Los Angeles Mission to help serve more than 3,000 Thanksgiving dinners to homeless guests in downtown Los Angeles.
The day started before the sun rose for many of the volunteers of the Los Angeles Mission. They cooked more than 800 turkeys, and equal amounts of side dishes to serve the thousands of homeless men, women and children looking for a hot meal before the holiday.
Sparks team President Kristin Bernert, Vice President and General Manager Penny Toler and Vice President of Sales Matt Basta were on hand, helping escort guests from the waiting area to their tables. The Ole Skool Crew also escorted guests to dinner tables when they weren’t entertaining the crowd with high energy dances.
A Sparks event wouldn’t be the same without Sparky, who entertained hundreds of children and backed up the Ole Skool Crew during an M.C. Hammer dance performance.
The annual event closed down Fifth Street from Wall Street to San Pedro, where tents and tables were lined up and decorated. There were stations offering dental screenings, speech and language screenings and foot washings and exams for the thousands of homeless. Clinic officials said the homeless guests often have foot problems that go undetected and short exams can evaluate and sometimes correct foot issues.
It was a great day in Skid Row for the thousands of men, women and children who were able to eat a hot, delicious meal for Thanksgiving.
