Sparks Go Green
The Los Angeles Sparks teamed up with partners Waste Management, T-Mobile, AQMD and Heal the Bay to clean up Santa Monica Beach in our annual beach clean up event. The event falls within the WNBA's larger Go Green platform from June 1-8, 2010.
Tina Thompson, Betty Lennox, Andrea Riley and newcomer Chanel Mokango all woke up early on Sunday morning to help the environment. They walked over a mile with fans, staff and key members from partner organizations picking up trash along the way. The day was ended by an exclusive barbeque at the Jonathan Club at the Beach who presented Sparks partner Heal the Bay with a check for $1,000 to continue their great work in the community.
The Sparks Go Green game is this Tuesday, June 8 at 7:30pm against the Phoenix Mercury. The first 5,000 fans in the doors will receive biodegradable shoelaces courtesy of Waste Management. Waste Management will also distribute 6,000 cheer cards, printed on recycled paper, during the game. Also, fans that bring their e-waste to the game will receive two tickets to the Sparks game against the Minnesota Lynx on June 13 at 12:00pm at STAPLES Center. Any fan that brings their old cell phones to be recycled will have the opportunity to shoot on the court, courtesy of T-Mobile. All of these items can be dropped off at the 11th Street Entrance.
