The Sparks have signed Macchi, a 6-3 forward.

Macchi, a 6-3 forward is currently averaging 23 points and 6.5 rebounds on the season for Pool Comense in Italy. The Italian born native joined the EuroLeague in 2000 and has averaged 26.8 ppg over her career.
“We’ve acquired an excellent player who is extremely versatile and can play several positions from two to the four,” stated Head Coach Michael Cooper. “Laura brings an exciting game to our backcourt and we are confident that she will fit in well with our core nucleus. I am certain that she will help provide our team with several offensive and defensive options.”
Macchi, who received her nickname “Chicca” (KEE-kah) from former Coach Beppe Zanforlin of Team Pressing Rho, began her club career in 1990 with Kelsit Varese Basketball. Acquired by Rho in 1992, Macchi helped lead her team to two Italian Cadette titles between 1992 and 1996.
Widely recognized as one of the best players in Europe, Macchi has received several titles and honors throughout her career including dual All-Star MVP honors (1998 and 2004), Best Italian Young Player (1999 and 2003), three Italian SuperCups, one Italian National Cup, and one Italian Junior Title.
Macchi competed with the junior National Team for eight seasons and took home silver medals in both the 2001 Mediterranean Games and World University Games in 2003.
The Los Angeles Sparks will play their sole home preseason game Saturday, May 8 versus the New York Liberty at 7 p.m. (PST) at the Pyramid at Long Beach State University.
