Sparks Forward Vicki Hall Retires
Los Angeles Activates Center Katryna Gaither
INGLEWOOD, Calif., June 6 -- Forward Vicki Hall has chosen to retire from the WNBA it was announced today by Sparks General Manager Penny Toler. Effective immediately, Hall has decided to complete her basketball career in Europe.

"I wish the Sparks the best of luck," Hall said. "However, I believe it will be more beneficial to continue my career in Europe."

Hall, who was claimed off of waivers from Indiana on May 13, averaged 19 minutes and 2.3 points in three games played with the Sparks this season.

"Vickie was a great acquisition in the way that we acquired her. Unfortunately she has announced her retirement and we have to respect her decision, " said Sparks Head Coach Michael Cooper. "She will be missed."

In light of Hall's decision the Sparks have chosen to activate 6-3 center, Katryna Gaither. Gaither most recently played with the Cleveland Rockers prior to being waived on May 21. She spent the 2001 off-season in Korea following waivers by Indiana in 2001 and Utah in 2000.

Gaithers played in nine games, while with the Starzz, averaging 1.6 ppg and 1.9 rpg before being released July 7. She was claimed off waivers by Indiana and averaged 1.0 ppg and 0.5 rpg for the Fever in six games. In her most minutes of the season with the Fever, she tied a season and career-high with four points at Portland, July 28. In nine games with Utah, she scored a total of 14 points, including 10-10 FT.
