Sparks Celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month
Sparks Host Wonders of Asia at STAPLES Center on May 20
The Los Angeles Sparks, in partnership with the City of Los Angeles APIAHM Committee, will host Wonders of Asia, one of the closing ceremonies of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month on May 20, when the team takes on the Seattle Storm at 5:30pm. The game will be broadcast live on KDOC.
Wonders of Asia will feature a concourse offering attendees a chance to learn and experience traditions and cultures from various Asian and Pacific Islander organizations. Each organization will represent one or more countries from the region.
“The Sparks look forward to celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month at what will be an exciting home opener,” Team President Mike Levy said. “Fans will be treated to world-class basketball and performances by many talented groups from the Asian and Pacific Islander communities.”
Taiko drummers will entertain the crowd before the game and during player and team introductions. There will be additional musical and dance performances both on the court and spotlighted throughout the upper levels of the arena.
Tickets in the STAPLES Center green section (parts of sections 104-108 and 114-117) will be sold for $20, with a portion of the proceeds going back to a local APIAHM charity. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.wnba.com/sparks/apiahm.html
