The Team Reflects on 2009
Favorite Thing about the 2009 Season:
Tina Thompson: I think my favorite part was spending time with everyone. We have such a funny team, especially Shannon and Vanessa. I loved the challenge that we had of finding ourselves because our goal was to win a championship.
Shannon Bobbitt: I loved getting to know each player and building chemistry. Everybody on the team became like family. Vanessa and Noelle are definitely the goofiest.
Kristi Harrower: It was just great getting to the girls. We had a lot of fun in the midst of tough times and that was really great to be part of this year.
Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton: My favorite part was playing with all of these stars. To come to a team like this was a dream come true. To play on a team of this caliber was great. To know that I could play with them and learn from them each day was awesome.
On Lisa’s Retirement:
Noelle Quinn: It’s going to be different because Lisa is the LA Sparks and has been the face of the WNBA. I’m sad to see her go but am so happy that I had the chance to play with her.
Candace Parker: I would define her career as amazing. She’s done everything that anyone can do in basketball. It isn’t something you see all the time. She’s happy where she’s at and in her decision so I’m happy for her.
Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton: It’s a bittersweet feeling. I’m sad that Lisa is leaving. She was a great role model for me every single day both on and off the court.
On the 2009 Season:
Betty Lennox: I’m disappointed. I feel that we came up short because we didn’t accomplish the ultimate goal.
Vanessa Hayden: Obviously we wanted to continue playing and be competing for a championship. There is always next year and the management will bring in the right people for us to go after it.
Marie Ferdinand-Harris: I’m disappointed because of what I knew we were capable of. It cost us a championship and I feel like we could’ve had two championships right now. Last year and this year. We definitely had the talent. We let two opportunities slip because you don’t get these chances often.
Offseason Plans:
Betty Lennox: My plans for the offseason are to rest my body and take some time off for me. I will eventually play overseas but I really want to take time for me right now.
Candace Parker: I’m going to go to Russia and play with Ekaterinburg. That’s the plan to leave in January. But first, I’m going to head to USA Basketball for training camp.
Shannon Bobbitt: I’m going overseas. Not sure where yet but I’m going to go and get better as a player and as a person.
