8th Annual Girls Sports Day L.A.
The Sparks participated in Girls Sports Day L.A. at Rancho Cienega Sports Complex on Saturday April 8, 2006 from 11:00am-12:30pm. Funded by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and the RAISE THE BAR Gender Equity Program, this FREE clinic taught over 500 girls, ages 6-18, the fundamentals of basketball, golf, soccer, and softball. Last year, Sparks Center Christi Thomas read a short story at lunch as part of the WNBA’s Read To Achieve program. This year, Sparks Forward Mwadi Mabika came out to help coach two basketball sessions, promote the WNBA’s Be Smart Be Fit Be Yourself initiative, and speak to the girls about the importance of practice.
