A Reading Timeout with Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton
By: Kristine Aglubat

Fast Break to ReadingThe Los Angeles Sparks partnered with City Scholars to bring the first Pitney Bowes Fast Break to Reading event of the 2009 season held at the brand new Mar Vista Family Center. On June 23, 2009 from 10-11am, over 50 excited kids ranging in 3rd to 5th grades attended this reading session with rookie forward Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton.

Lindsay read The Real Slam Dunk by Charisse K. Richardson as the kids listened intently with eager ears. She believes these events are very important and vital in order to stress the importance of doing well in school now and continuing their success in college.

Fast Break to Reading“This definitely helps the kids understand how important it is to do well in school and attend college,” said Wisdom-Hylton. “Partnering with City Scholars to put on this event with Pitney Bowes is essential in the development of the kids.”

After the pep-talk and reading by Lindsay, the kids were asked questions regarding the story; and if answered correctly, they earned Sparks gear. Upon leaving, they also received goodie bags filled with school supplies, a Sparks t-shirt, and 2 tickets to the June 28th game vs. Seattle Storm.

“I enjoyed doing this reading timeout because I got to spend time with the kids and give them advice that will hopefully help them in the future.”
