Run For Her 5k Run and Friendship Walk
Sunday, November 16, 2008
Motivated by her mom's courageous 10-year battle with cancer, Kelli Sargent partnered with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to organize the 2005 inaugural Run For Her event. For five years, Kelli’s mom Nancy crossed the finish line, and more than 5,000 participants helped increase awareness of ovarian cancer. In the process, they raised more than $1.4 million for the Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer Research Institute at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Nanci lost her battle to ovarian cancer this year, but her strength and inspiration will continue through the Run for Her 5K Run and Friendship Walk. Sign up today as a part of the LA Sparks Team, learn more about ovarian cancer, and help fulfill Nanci's dream of “saving the lives of the women in your life.”
Last year, with your help, the LA Sparks raised $15,000. This year, our goal is to raise even more to help fund Cedars-Sinai’s leading edge research toward the treatment of women’s cancers. Why Run…or Walk?
Ovarian cancer is often called the "disease that whispers" because the early warning signs are the same as many other common conditions. There is no reliable test for ovarian cancer and one of the most successful tools we have is education. By joining in the event and learning more about ovarian cancer, you’ll be helping people everywhere move closer to the goal of ending cancer as a threat to women.

Sign Up for the Cedars-Sinai Blood Drive.
L.A. isn’t just experiencing a water shortage!
Two out of three Los Angeles residents will need donated blood sometime in their lives. When this happens, Cedars-Sinai will likely be one of the places to which they will turn since the Medical Center is one of the few remaining Level 1 Trauma Centers in the city. The problem is, 54,000 blood products (such as pints of blood, platelets, etc.) are needed each year, and as other hospitals and trauma centers close, the demand increases.
In an emergency, the blood used to save lives must already be on the shelves. But not only isn’t there enough blood at the moment, the blood and blood products that do exist have a surprisingly short shelf life — only 42 days for red blood cells and five days for platelets. The lack of donated blood is as critical as the emergencies it will treat, and your help is needed.
Please call the Rita and Taft Schreiber Blood Donor Facility at (310) 423-5346, and schedule a time to donate blood. It’s located in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, South Tower, Street level, Room 1690. It doesn’t take too long, and afterward you get a really good feeling!
We can also help you organize a blood drive at your office, or in your community. Call us at (310) 423-5346 or e-mail us now, and see how easy it is to make an important difference.
