On February 25th, Lisa Leslie supported the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women cause by attending their annual luncheon as the keynote speaker. Lisa’s message was about being healthy and taking care of you. Drawing on the experience of living her busy life as a mom, professional athlete, wife, author and model she gave the guests in attendance a real look at what it takes to make sure that you are prioritizing your life and adding a space on the list for taking care of yourself.“This is an important cause because we as women focus so much on our families and what they need. We have to be able to also focus on ourselves and take the time we need to rejuvenate ourselves,” said Leslie during her speech.
As she continued down her life’s journey to where she is now, she garnered laughs and sighs but the general consensus in the room was how motivational she is. Letting women know that goal-setting should be an important part of their life. Every goal she’s written down, she has accomplished and a major goal that women overlook today is taking time for themselves.
“I’m glad I could be here to share my message and story,” said Lisa. “I feel like this is another part of me outside of basketball that I have to share.”
Sparks co-owner Carla Christofferson, who was the Event Chair, was also in attendance as she was honored for her contributions and efforts towards helping to raise awareness for women about heart disease. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Jennie Garth also had a chance to take the stage and share their stories and ties to the Go Red For Women campaign.
To end the program in typical Lisa fashion, she gave an autographed jersey signed by herself to one lucky guest who was in fact a Sparks fan and soon to be MVP.
Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power of women to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke. Thanks to the participation of millions of people across the country, the color red and the red dress now stand for the ability all women have to improve their heart health and live stronger, longer lives.
