The Chicago Sky’s 2013 WNBA preseason game, the “Game Plan For Peace,” against the New York Liberty is set for Wednesday, May 15. The game will take place in the Jacoby Dickens Gymnasium on the campus of Chicago State University with a tip-off at 11:30 a.m. CT.

The “Game Plan For Peace” contest continues the Sky’s tradition to take preseason games into the community. The Sky, CeaseFire Illinois and the Cook County Sheriff’s Department are using this game to commence the Sky’s season-long anti-violence initiative.

This preseason game is the first WNBA match for four-time All-American and second overall draft pick Elena Delle Donne. She will join Sky veterans Swin Cash, Sylvia Fowles and Epiphanny Prince to overcome a new look Liberty roster led by dominant scorer and Chicago native Cappie Pondexter.

The Sky defeated the Liberty 89-57 during their 2012 preseason match up at the Prudential Center. The Sky finished the regular season with a 2-2 record against New York. It will be a new look Liberty that hits the court in 2013 after hiring new Head Coach Bill Laimbeer. Laimbeer has added former Detroit Shock star Cheryl Ford, who is making a return to the WNBA after not having played since 2009 and Katie Smith who was signed as a free agent. Ford and Smith join the number five overall WNBA draft pick Kelsey Bone to add to an already talented Liberty roster led by Cappie Pondexter, Essence Carson and Plenette Pierson.

The Sky face Phoenix Mercury’s veteran All-Star Diana Taurasi and first overall draft pick Britney Griner in their first WNBA regular season game on May 27. This match will be televised nationally on ESPN at 4pm CST.

The Sky returns home for their home opener on Friday, May 31 at Allstate Arena with the game tipping off at 7:30pm. This will be a battle of the Centers as Big Syl will match up against center Tina Charles who was named the 2012 WNBA MVP. For tickets to opening night call 866.SKY.WNBA.
